Paal has been a constant presence in the Registrar’s Office since October 2003, when she first shouldered the task of developing and managing academic schedules and programs for all SPH students. Before coming to SPH, she was director of student services at the BU School of Medicine.

She joins co-award winners Gregory DeFronzo, director of Information Technology Services in the School of Management; and Joel Sparks, laboratory manager in the Department of Earth and Environment of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Perkins Awards will be presented at a special ceremony and reception in the Trustee Ballroom, One Silber Way, 9th Floor, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 5:00 p.m.

The Distinguished Service Awards were established in 1981 by the Faculty Council and since 1984 have been sponsored by the estate of John S. Perkins, who served the University for over 50 years in various capacities as faculty member, member of the administration, Trustee, and Treasurer.

These awards, presented annually by the Council to three members of the Boston University family, are in recognition of distinguished services to the University. They carry a prize of $500 and a plaque recognizing the service of the recipient to Boston University.
