November 6 Deadline for Self Nominations

Message from Michael McClean, Chair of Faculty Senate Election Task Force – I am writing to encourage BUSPH faculty members to submit self-nominations for 8 vacant at-large seats on the Faculty Senate. The elected members will begin serving in December 2009 for a two-year term that expires in November 2011.

The BUSPH Faculty Senate was inaugurated in November 2007 as part of a revamped governance structure instituted by Dean Robert Meenan to improve transparency and expand faculty participation in strategic decision-making at BUSPH. While it operates as an independent body able to discuss or consider any topic it chooses, the Faculty Senate also plays a formal role in the School’s decision-making process, reviewing and submitting comments on all major policy issues voted on by the School’s Governing Council. The Faculty Senate also has seats on the School’s Management Committee and Governing Council.

Faculty Senate members attend monthly meetings held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month and serve on task force groups to study and report on specific topics. Serving on the Faculty Senate is a valuable opportunity for BUSPH faculty members to get to know colleagues from other departments and have an impact on the strategic direction of the School.

Eligibility:

Faculty with a primary appointment at BUSPH as instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or professor (either unmodified or modified by “research” or “clinical”) are eligible to serve as elected members of the Faculty Senate, unless they are already members of the Governing Council.

Self-Nomination Instructions:

Faculty members who would like to run for this seat should indicate their interest to Michelle Salzman at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , by noon, Friday, November 6. Please submit a short statement of interest that will be used as part of an online ballot to be distributed to the faculty on or around November 9 through the BUSPH Insider.
