Faculty Development Workshop, 11/10: Facilitating Learning in Large Classes Using Cooperative Learning and Research on How People Learn

Faculty Development Workshop is Thursday, November 10th, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Founders' Room

From Rob Schadt, director of the Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology, and Marianne Prout, director of the Office of Faculty Development:

Participants will come to know the theory and philosophy behind cooperative learning, including its belief in the value for all students and the need to provide cooperative environments that balance challenge and support. As important, however, they will learn how to use cooperative structures to foster academic achievement, critical thinking, and deeper learning. The session will emphasize both relevant theory and active learning approaches, particularly in groups. The session will model a cooperative classroom with combinations of direct instruction, interactive group work tied to the session objectives, and whole-class discussion with questions. The emphasis of this session will be to encourage classroom activities that can be used to reduce lecture time and to promote active learning.

Lunch will be served; however, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (and your lunch).
