Dr. H. Gilbert Welch was the keynote speaker at this year's Bicknell Lectureship in Public Health. Welch, co-author of the book, "Overdiagnosed: Making People Sick in the Pursuit of Health", laid out a series of studies that challenge the widespread notion that early screening saves lives.
