Sharon Sagiv is trained as an epidemiologist with research interests focused primarily on prenatal and early life exposure to environmental contaminants and neurodevelopment. She has investigated the effect of prenatal exposure to persistent organic pollutants, including PCBs and DDT, on birth outcomes and on neurodevelopment in young children. Current research activities include studying the effect of exposure to heavy metals, including lead, methylmercury and manganese, on behavioral outcomes in infants and school-aged children. She is also investigating associations of prenatal and postnatal exposure to polyfluoroalkyl chemicals (PFCs) with child growth and development, focusing on prenatal maternal and newborn thyroid function, somatic growth, metabolic function and neurodevelopment. Dr. Sagiv is also interested in the effects of environmental exposures on aging and neurocognitive decline.
