Dr. LaMorte received his MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and received a PhD in biochemistry and an MPH from Boston University. He has been a faculty member at Boston University for more than 20 years and currently teaches two courses in the School of Public Health: "The Biology of Public Health," and "Introduction to Public Health". He is currently the Assistant Dean for Education at Boston University School of Public Health, and he is also the director of the MD-MPH dual degree program, the BS-MPH dual degree program, the BA-MPH dual degree program, and the undergraduate Public Health Minor at Boston University.
He has been actively involved in public health practice. He has worked actively with the New England Alliance for Public Health Workforce development to create and provide both online training and face to face training to public health practitioners in Massachusetts. Dr. LaMorte has also worked closely with the Weymouth Health Department on a number of projects and with the Weymouth school system to develop videos to promote healthy choices among teenagers. These include videos on personal decisions on smoking, physical activity and healthy eating, and alcohol use.
Dr. LaMorte is also a principal investigator for for a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to manage the Local Public Health Institute of Massachusetts, which provides training to the public health work force in the 351 communities in Massachusetts.
Additional research and teaching interests include: teaching effectivness, online education, distance learning, web-based teaching tools, online teaching modules, biology and public health, and community-based practice.
