Dr. Coogan’s research has focused on cancer etiology, particularly the influence of environmental factors and the role of medications on cancer risk. She has published extensively on the relation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, statins, antidepressants, and other drugs to the risk of breast, ovarian, prostate, and other cancers. Dr. Coogan is a co-investigator on the Black Women’s Health Study, a prospective study of African American women conducted by the Slone Epidemiology Center. Her main interest in that study is the effect of the environment, including air pollution and the built and social environments, on health outcomes including obesity, physical activity, and asthma.
