Biography

    Dr. Pizer holds a joint appointment at the Boston University School of Public Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Boston College.  He is currently Principal Investigator on a project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that is developing econometric models of market entry, premium and benefit determination, and enrollment response for private health plans in Medicare. He is also Principal Investigator on a study of the effects of delayed access to outpatient care on outcomes for patients with diabetes.  He is co-Principal Investigator on an AHRQ-funded study of the relationship between health insurance and outcomes for persons with disabilities. 

    Prior to his graduate training in economics, Dr. Pizer worked for the Massachusetts Legislature and for several consumer organizations concerned with state insurance regulation.
