Environmental Health

Academic Programs

The Department of Environmental Health offers the following degree programs:

The Master of Public Health program, with a Concentration in Environmental Health, prepares students to move into the front lines of public health.  The curriculum first gives a firm grounding in environmental health science and policy, and then allows students to tailor further coursework to their interests in global health and sustainability, environmental epidemiology, environmental exposures and risk assessment, urban health and environmental justice, or environmental health management.  A final academic project and hands-on experience in a work setting round out the MPH concentration in environmental health. Our graduates find rewarding careers in public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and research and consulting settings.

The Doctor of Science program provides students with specialized research training and experience in environmental health. Working with faculty, students tailor a course of study that includes original research culminating in a dissertation. Most of our students choose research topics in immunotoxicology, environmental epidemiology, urban environmental health, or environmental or occupational health policy. This degree program prepares students to work as research scientists--continuing the department's tradition of rigorous, innovative, and socially engaged research--or to work in organizations concerned with public policy that affect environmental or occupational health.
