Meet the Board
Current Alumni Board Members:

Lindsay McNair '99, President

Dr. McNair is a consultant working in clinical research and drug development.  She manages clinical development strategies for new drugs, designs and oversees the conduct of all phases of clinical trials, and provides medical advice for marketing plans.  She was formerly the Senior Medical Director for Clinical Development and Medical Affairs in the Medicines Development Group at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

She is an adjunct Assistant Professor at Boston University and teaches in the School of Public Health and in the Master’s of Clinical Investigation graduate programs, on the design and conduct of clinical research studies.  Her areas of interest include the ethical conduct of clinical research studies as part of pharmaceutical drug development, and interactions between ethics committees/ research review boards and the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. McNair graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and trained in general surgery at Boston University Medical Center. She completed her Master’s in Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health, concentrating in Biostatistics/Epidemiology and Health Services Administration.  She was a member of the Institutional Review Board for the conduct of clinical research at Boston University Medical Center for several years, and founded and chaired the Human Subject Protection Committee at Vertex Pharmaceuticals.  She is an active member of PRIM&R (a national research ethics association) and also works with the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP).

Maureen Flynn '07, Vice President
Maureen Flynn is originally from Chicago and received her B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her M.S. in Medical Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She subsequently moved to Boston in 2002 to begin her career at the Boston University School of Medicine. 

Maureen obtained her MPH with a Health Law concentration from the BUSPH in 2007.  She is a certified clinical genetic counselor and a Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics at the BU School of Medicine.  She is also the Assistant Director of the M.S. Genetic Counseling Program at Boston University.  Maureen’s primary professional interests include cancer genetic counseling, hereditary cancer syndromes, pediatrics, public health, and health disparities. 

Maureen was appointed to the BUSPH Alumni Board in May 2008.  She currently resides in Somerville, MA and is delighted to call Boston University her home!

Olayinka Akinola '04
Olayinka (Yinka) Akinola is a scholar of The Emerging Leaders in Public Health (ELPH) program of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health, part of the School of Public Health, and Kenan-Flagler Business School, at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

With a primary medical background in addition to Epidemiology, Biostatistics and International Health, Yinka's areas of interests include HIV/AIDS and Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT), Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management, Complex Humanitarian Emergencies and Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention (AODV) related issues.

As a graduate student at BUSPH, one of the things he was fortunate to receive during the program was an excellent training and education that has greatly enhanced his knowledge and skill. In addition to this he also had the good fortune of doing his practicum with a BUSPH alumnus (who also happens to be a member of the Board now). He had a wonderful experience during that time and having gained so much from the School and its alumni, Yinka made a promise to serve and give back both to the school, alumni and student, a community which he has benefited from so much, in an attempt to make the experience full circle.

Kellie Anderson '02
Kellie Anderson is the Manager for Interactive Technologies for the U.S. Department of Education's Center for Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Violence Prevention in Higher Education. In this position, she creates online trainings; designs and moderates webinars; and researches and writes publications, reports, and Web content on alcohol and other drug abuse and violence prevention.

Kellie’s primary areas of interest are health communications, health promotion/disease prevention for high-risk populations, substance abuse prevention, and women and children’s health.

Kellie graduated from Stonehill College with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, and received her MPH from BUSPH in 2002, with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences.

Mireille Aramati '86
Mireille (Mickey) Aramati earned her MPH in 1986 with a Health Services concentration. She has a Certificate in Health Care in Developing Countries, is the President of the BUSPH Alumni Board, and is currently a Global Health Consultant with 24 years experience managing, providing technical assistance, and oversight to large-scale health and reproductive health programs.

Mickey’s experience includes providing management, technical assistance, and evaluation in Reproductive Health, Contraceptive Security, Health Policy,  Maternal Child Health programs, HIV/AIDS, training, delivery of health services, primary health care and community outreach, management system design, strategic planning, business development, communications strategy, financial management, sustainability of health services, and management of technical assistance. 

She has expertise in Institutional Capacity Building as she provided technical assistance and training to health ministries, public and private-sector institutions, non-government organizations (NGOs), universities, and training centers in Asia, Middle East/Near East, Africa, and the U.S. She is fluent in French and Arabic.

She is also a recipient of the 2009 BUSPH Distinguished Alumni Award!

Emily Bahnsen '08
Emily Bahnsen received her MPH from the BUSPH in May of 2008 with a concentration in International Health. During her time at the School, Emily participated in the inaugural Field Study in Environmental and Public Health in Kimana, Kenya.

She moved to Boston in 2004 after graduating from the University of Vermont, and worked in the Division of Development and The Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Emily is currently Executive Assistant to Dr. Paul Farmer at Partners In Health, a non-profit that works in 10 countries around the world to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. She enjoys hiking in the White Mountains, biking the Minuteman trail, and running.

Elizabeth C. Daake '02
Elizabeth C. Daake is currently the Director of Policy Development, Planning and Research for the Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  There she conducts policy development and implementation related to health care facilities, services and providers throughout the Commonwealth.  She was previously a Senior Consultant with ECG Management Consultants,working on a variety of projects, from market assessment and strategic planning to physician compensation and funds flow reorganization.  Before joining ECG, Ms. Daake spent five years at Cambridge Health Alliance as a marketing and strategic planning professional.  She holds a B.A. in English from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA in Health Sector Management and a Masters in Public Health from Boston University.  Her primary professional interests include long-term sustainability of the health care system, access to care, health care safety and quality, and health care public policy.

James Chen '09
James Chen currently works for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as the sole coordinator for the Sarcoma Clinical Research Information System protocol, which is a study designed to create a clinical research database and tissue and blood bank to study clinical outcomes for  eligible patients presenting to the sarcoma clinic.

James is originally from mainland China and speaks fluent Chinese/Mandarin. He holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and was an international health concentrator at BUSPH. He worked as project manager for Adherence for Life (AFL), a HIV/AIDS pilot study funded by USAID and WHO in Dali China in 2007. Prior to Dana-Farber, James worked at a financial services start-up company for 3 years.

James is actively involved in employee-organized events at Dana-Farber, as well as community services and volunteering outside of work. He was a City Year Corps member and is now a member of City Year Boston Alumni Board. James is interested in HIV/AIDS prevention and care in China, and currently serving as advisor to the American Friends of Barry & Martin’s Trust, Inc.

James is committed to advance social justice in Boston, and is a participant of LeadBoston Class of 2010.

Sue Fish '92
Sue Fish has been a medical researcher for more than 25 years. In a variety of forums, Sue lectures on the design, conduct, and management of clinical trials, as well as research ethics and protection of human research subjects.

She teaches courses through the BUSPH and Boston University School of Medicine, and is frequently an invited speaker nationally. Although she has a long history of research in the areas of clinical toxicology and emergency medicine, Sue has most recently focused on research ethics in general, and application of the federal regulations for waiver of informed consent in certain emergency research circumstances. Her sabbatical project was consistent with this focus, working as Project Director for PRIM&R’s Accreditation Project to develop a national accreditation system for human research protection programs.

She is also a recipient of the 2008 BUSPH Distinguished Alumni Award!

Doreen Nicastro '89

She recently completed a certificate in Emergency Management and Organizational Continuity at Boston University Metropolitan College.  She also completed 24 years of service at Boston University Medical Campus working in a variety of management and senior leadership positions. 

Doreen has her own consulting practice working with higher education institutions and public relations firms.  She's a professionally trained facilitator with over 20 years experience in organizational change management, information technology, designing systems and applications and leading cross-functional teams.  

When not traveling, she practices yoga with children who lost loved ones as a bereavement facilitator with Boston Medical Center, Good Grief program.

Bonnie Powell Kuta '93

Bonnie Powell Kuta works for High Performance Medicine at Partners Heath Care Systems Inc. Her Team at Partners is one of five initiatives called High Performance Medicine. Bonnie's specific area is focused on a series of programs to improve Patient Safety. 

Several years ago after experiencing a medical error she became committed to programs to mitigate and dramatically reduce harm and thus make health care safer.

The reason she joined the Alumni Board several years ago was an  opportunity to re-connect and to give back to BUSPH!

Amaru Sanchez '09

Marilyn White
'99
Marilyn White founded Clinical Research Solutions, Inc. and has been in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry as a clinical research professional for nineteen years. She founded Clinical Research Solutions, Inc. in 2001 where she specializes in restructuring clinical and quality groups for optimization, improved quality; cost and time effectiveness. Marilyn also has experience and provides services in clinical and laboratory auditing, management of investigator sites and vendors, medical writing, and project management. Marilyn has worked in both early and late stage clinical development with pharmaceutical, medical device and biologics. Marilyn enjoys being part of the design, training and implementation of new processes during a merger or acquisition. She also enjoys traveling, staying fit, through bicycling, mini triathalons, surfing, sailing and hiking.

Marilyn hopes to strengthen relations between industry, special public health foundations and the school of public health.  

Marilyn has earned a BS in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and a Master degree in Public Health with a concentration in biostatistics and epidemiology from Boston University.
