The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) has awarded the BU School of Public Health a full seven years of accreditation, their longest possible accreditation term. BUSPH is now accredited through December 31, 2018. This decision by CEPH capped a year-long process that focused on the development of a lengthy self-study report, multiple appendices and a comprehensive set of resource materials. The self-study effort was a true group effort that involved faculty and staff across the school. It also engaged students, alumni, collaborators and community partners. The self-study report was the focus of a multi-day site visit by CEPH reviewers in June 2011. The comments from reviewers at the end of the site visit began with these words, "This is a great school of public health." The visitors also reported that they were very impressed with the enthusiasm and dedication of the faculty, staff, students and alumni with whom they met. The CEPH final report identified many strengths of the School including: a collaborative and highly interdisciplinary learning environment; consistent annual growth in faculty research funding over the past eight years; faculty quality and leadership in scholarship, service and public health practice; and an excellent and well-qualified student body comprised of diverse domestic and international matriculants. The report praised the School’s investment in the new Career Services Office, noting the energy and dynamism this brought, as well as the potential for beneficial synergies between student practicum experiences, workforce development activities and career services. We received high grades for teaching, research and service.
