- If you are new to Boston, be sure to investigate housing options early - do not wait.
Once you are registered:
- Check your BU compliance status on the Student Link, and confirm or update your personal and contact information. Be sure to enter your cell phone number and local address into the Link.
Later this summer:
- If you are in Boston in August before Orientation, get a picture ID at the ID Office, 710 Albany Street. You must be registered to get your ID. The ID Office is open 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. It is closed for lunch, so plan your trip carefully.
- Pick up your print/copy card in the Medical Library, 12th Floor, BU Medical School.
- Buy your books and order your course readers from the BU Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Kenmore Square. Check the Semester Course Reader & Book Document for more information and for pre-assignments at http://sph.bu.edu/studentinsider.This list is posted approximately two weeks before classes start.
- Review your course Blackboard web site at http://blackboard.bu.edu. Not all professors use Blackboard, so don't be alarmed if all your courses do not show up.

- View your schedule under the “Academics” tab. Review the campus map and find your classrooms. The room assignment schedule will be posted to the Student Insider and will be distributed at Orientation.
- The Student Accounting Services website, http://www.bu.edu/studentaccountingservices, has information pertaining to tuition costs, payment due dates, and payment options. Students may check their individual student account and financial aid information and waive health insurance under the “Money Matters” tab on the Student Link.
- Need a “proof of enrollment” for your landlord or another purpose? You may print a proof of enrollment by selecting "Proof of Enrollment" under the purple “Personal” tab on the Student Link where you registered for classes, http://www.bu.edu/studentlink.
- Need to have prior loans deferred? BU is part of the National Clearinghouse, and if you are in status, your name will automatically be submitted to federal loan programs. You may also submit a signed loan deferment form from your loaner to the SPH Registrar's Office, Talbot 210 Center. No envelopes needed - just be sure you give us the mailing address or fax number to which your form should be sent.
Changing Your Schedule?
- Online registration is closed after a course meets once. To add a course that has met once, obtain the instructor’s signature on an add/drop form and bring the form to the Registrar’s Office. Students are not allowed to add a course after it has met twice.
- To be added to the wait list for a closed course, complete the online waitlist form at: www.sph.bu.edu/waitlistform. Please do not contact the instructor or the department; the Registrar’s Office handles all waitlists.
During Your First Month of School:
- Familiarize yourself with your program requirements by reading your concentration’s Concentrator Guide or your degree program’s Program Guide.
- If you are an MPH student, use the Degree Advice function on the Student Link under "Academics." You may also download a graduation audit from the SPH Registrar’s Office website at http://sph.bu.edu/registrar/graduation, and track your progress on appear.
- If you feel overwhelmed with your course load, remember you may drop full-semester courses up to October 9th without academic or financial penalty so long as you stay registered for at least one course. Be aware that changing your schedule may change your financial aid status and that international students generally have to maintain at least 12 credits to be in status.
