WHAT IS THE CENTER'S PRINCIPAL GOAL? The Center's overarching goal is to promote the safe and effective use of medications for the nation's public health through research, education and consultation. WHAT IS THE CENTER'S MAIN MISSION? CAPP is a consortium of researchers and educators dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of therapeutic medications. WHAT DOES THE CENTER OFFER? The Center offers opportunities for collaboration and development in research and education related to pharmaceutical practices. The Center has access to some of the largest databases in the United States for answering important therapeutic questions facing clinicians in routine practice. Through membership in CAPP, we offer opportunities to use these data along with assistance in obtaining funding and grant preparation, research design, and analysis. The Center also has a number of educational programs and provides consultative services. WHAT ARE THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE CENTER? Research with a broad-based portfolio of projects:
Master's of public health students in the BUSPH Department of Health Policy and Management may participate in the Pharmaceutical Assessment, Management and Policy (PAMP) program, an educational track for students who are interested in careers in or related to the pharmaceutical industry including employment settings such as pharmaceutical/biotech companies, pharmaceutical benefit management companies, consulting firms, and federal or state agencies that interface with the pharmaceutical industry. HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CENTER? We seek collaborative relationships with those in the Boston University community interested in participating in our research, education, and consulting programs. We welcome inquiries from all collaborators, including students interested in post-graduate training in the evaluation of therapeutic agents. WHAT ARE THE CENTER'S AREAS OF EXPERTISE?
Some of the Center's current projects focus on medications prescribed for diabetes, chronic heart failure, end stage renal disease, osteoporosis, chronic pain, hepatitis C, epilepsy, depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders. WHO ARE THE CENTER'S FACULTY AND STAFF? The Center is composed of a multi-disciplinary team of over 20 faculty and staff, including clinicians, health service researchers, epidemiologists, medical sociologists, statisticians, and analysts. HOW IS THE CENTER SUPPORTED? Support comes from federal grants, foundation support, and unrestricted industry grants. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE CENTER?
