Old Disease, New Technology: Winning the Syphilis Battle with mHealth and Community Based Agents
Julie Herlihy, MD, MPH, hopes to combine innovative technologies with existing infrastructure to develop a program to help battle syphilis in pregnant women in Africa. Herlihy, a researcher at the Boston University Center for Global Health and Development, plans to use a combination of mobile messaging tech and personal contacts by community health workers to ensure mothers' compliance with tests and treatments.
