Funded in 2001 by the Centers for Disease Control, the Partners in Health and Housing Prevention Research Center (PHH-PRC) focuses its research programs on issues specific to public housing residents. The PHH-PRC is housed at Boston University School of Public Health.

PHH-PRC is an equitable partnership among Boston University School of Public Health, Boston Housing Authority, Boston Public Health Commission, and the Community Committee for Health Promotion (comprised of public housing residents and community advocates). Through these partnerships, "we work to improve the health and well-being of the residents of public housing by engaging them in community-centered research programs and activities as well as address the Healthy People 2010 goals of improving health status and reducing health disparities."

The mission of the PHH-PRC is to engage public housing residents in community-centered research programs and activities that improve their health and well-being.

Partners in Health and Housing Prevention Research Center Objectives

1. Assess the public health needs of residents and disseminate PHH-PRC findings and other relevant information
2. Design and perform prevention research in public housing settings
3. Maintain successful prevention programs for residents through integration into ongoing programs of partner agencies
4. Expand effective partnerships to address the public health needs of residents
5. Identify and educate current and future leaders among residents to improve community's health
6. Provide public health practice learning opportunities for BUSPH students
