Assessing Patient Navigation Activities This project aims to eliminate far-ranging ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographical barriers to seeking, obtaining, and completing diagnosis and treatment within the health care environment. Black Women's Health Study The largest follow-up health study of African-American women yet undertaken. BWHS works to identify specific risk factors for breast cancer, lupus erythematosus, preterm birth, and other serious conditions. Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights BCRHHR provides comprehensive medical, psychological, social, and legal services to refugees and survivors of torture, focusing on community as a vehicle for recovery and healing. Caregiving and Healthy Aging Research Our research group is conducting epidemiologic studies on how psychosocial factors influence physical health and functioning in community-dwelling older adults, hip fracture patients, and adults at-risk of arthritis. Center for the Assessment of Pharmaceutical Practices CAPP is a consortium of researchers and educators dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of therapeutic medications. Center for Global Health and Development CGHD is a team of clinicians, social scientists and economists based at BUSPH that strives to improve health and quality of life of people throughout the developing world by conducting applied research that treats health as a medical social development and economic issue. Data Coordinating Center DCC is a data management resource center providing data system development as well as questionnaire and case-report form design and implementation, study protocols, data entry and management, and statistical, database, and Web-based programming. The Exposure Biology Research Group The Exposure Biology Research Group (EBRG) focuses on the use of biological markers to assess environmental and occupational exposures via multiple pathways with respect to exposure-related disease. Framingham Heart Study This internationally renowned study, established in 1948, seeks to understand the underpinnings of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death and serious illness in the United States. Genetics Analysis Workshop A collaborative effort among genetic epidemiologists and statistical geneticists, this project develops, evaluates, and compares statistical genetic methods through data sets such as those used in the Framingham Heart Study. Health & Disability Research Institute The Health and Disability Research Institute is engaged in research activities to promote health and improve the lives of people with disabilities. HDR collaborates on research projects with groups at Boston University and with national and international organizations. Health & Disability Working Group (HDWG) This working group conducts research, technical assistance, and training to improve the delivery of medical, behavioral, and support services to the disabled and chronically ill. Health Reform Program This program seeks practical solutions to problems in health care reform, such as the cost of prescription drugs, the disproportionate closing of hospitals in minority and lower-income communities, and how to assure affordable health care for all. Healthy Public Housing Initiative The Healthy Public Housing Initiative is a Boston-based, community-centered project designed to engage public housing residents in a collaborative process to improve the health and quality of life of residents, as well as building conditions. Join Together A nationally recognized resource, Join Together offers information, strategic planning assistance, and leadership development in community-based advocacy of effective alcohol and drug policy, prevention, and treatment. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Public Health Research This project aims to identify the public health problems and emerging concerns of the LGBT community, through interdisciplinary scientific research, as well as to disseminate key information to health professionals and the LGBT community itself. Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiology Research & Information Center (MAVERIC) MAVERIC provides on-site expertise in population-based study design, implementation, and statistical analysis for all types of epidemiologic research. Medical Screening Program for Former Workers This project provides a free medical screening for former workers of Department of Energy facilities to screen for health abnormalities that may be linked to exposures to hazardous substances such as radiation, asbestos, beryllium, lead, lasers, solvents, silica, and loud noise. Pay-for-Performance Research Program A component of the Health Policy and Management department, this initiative serves nationally as a resource for health plans, employer groups, providers, and researchers in assessing the outcomes of incentive programs for providers. Pharmaceutical Management In order to improve the effective use of medicines, to identify short- and long-term strategies for improving the use of medicines worldwide, and to evaluate health reform and financing, this management program applies expertise in the areas of infectious diseases, public health, demography, epidemiology, economics, and social sciences. Prevention Research Center By engaging residents of public housing directly in effective community-centered programs, the PRC seeks to improve the overall health and well-being within public housing developments. Program to Eliminate Racial/Ethnic Health Disparities This collaborative effort among BUSPH faculty, students, and community partners works with Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH), a nonprofit membership organization, to raise public awareness about the far-ranging effects of racial and ethnic health disparities. Sherr Laboratory Part of the School's Department of Environmental Health, the Sherr Laboratory applies cellular and molecular technologies to research in the areas of basic and applied science. Slone Epidemiology Center
The Slone facility uses case and follow-up studies, clinical trials, surveillance studies, risk-management studies, and population-based surveys to assess the health effects of medications and other factors. Superfund Research Program at Boston University
