| Prerequisites |
Bachelor's degree attainment or work in progress. A bachelor's degree must be conferred before beginning classes at BUSPH.
Though the PhD program will consider exceptional candidates with a Bachelor's degree, a graduate degree in a relevant field is highly encouraged.

Test Scores Accepted
|
- All applicants to Boston University School of Public Health must submit a standardized test score with their application. Applicants may submit the GRE or MCAT for this program. Please review our test specific reporting codes.
An official test score is required regardless of prior degree(s) obtained.

Statement of Purpose and Objectives
|
The PhD program in Environmental Health Science requires each applicant to submit a personal statement. A personal statement is intended to give an applicant the opportunity to submit a narrative describing past education and experience, current research interests, and professional career objectives.
Applicants are encouraged to comment on any or all of the following: reasons for pursuing a PhD in environmental health; how the applicant's experience and education have prepared them for doctoral study; a description of general research interests; reason for interest in BUSPH, which may include mention of specific faculty members and/or research projects; and long-term career goals.

Official Transcripts
|
Applicants must have official transcripts for all registered coursework submitted from each institution directly to SOPHAS using their Official Transcript Request Form. This documentation must be sent from the registrar or designated school records official directly to SOPHAS. Official transcripts will not be accepted from the applicant. Photocopies of official transcripts or unofficial records will not be accepted. International transcripts, including study abroad transcripts, may have additional requirements.
If you are currently in a degree program, you are required to submit a current official transcript showing all completed coursework and work in progress. If you are accepted for admission, a final official transcript* after degree conferral must be submitted directly to Boston University prior to matriculation.
*The School of Public Health reserves the right to re-evaluate an application for admission upon receipt of the final official transcript. |
Letters of Recommendation
|
Three Letters of Recommendation are required as evidence of academic skills and interest. The Committee will be especially interested in references from former undergraduate or graduate school professors and former supervisors of environmental health or research related employment.
SOPHAS provides both an electronic submission process for all letters of recommendation. |
